PRESTO - Project on Reduction of Eutrophication of the Sea Today

In PRESTO project, investments into enhanced phosphorus removal will be made in four cities in Belarus: Grodno, Baranovichi, Molodechno and Vitebsk. The estimated annual load reduction to be achieved with the project PRESTO is around 500 tonnes. The Foundation has the project lead on all technical studies and investments. Another key part of the program is a training module with the aim of increasing the knowhow of Belarusian waste water engineers in the field of enhanced nutrient removal technologies. This part is run by the Berlin Technical University. Other partners are include Daugavpils (Latvia) and Kaunas (Lithuania) water utilities. The Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) is in charge of PRESTO project administration.
PRESTO was approved by the Baltic Sea Region Programme Monitoring Committee in June 2011.
